A BLOG FOR JOE...
Rip Joe Young of 17TEN
By Mike Vanek
Last week we lost a good friend. We lost someone that everyone who met him loved... We lost Mighty Joe Young of the band 17TEN. Joe was an awesome band member, Father, Son, Uncle, Brother and Friend!!
A vet of the local rap scene known as Hard Knox, Joe spent the last few years on and off with the Modesto based metal band 17TEN. 17Ten became one of our area's most successful bands not only on stage but off as well!! The term Pü Metal has become a household terminology in our scene and the color orange has become synonymous with the band as well. They've incorporated it in everything they do, merch, on stage clothes and masks all honing the orange with a captive energy unmatched by other bands. Whether In front of 3 people 100 or Joe and KC made you feel as if they were there to play just for you with they're captivating hip hop/Metal style. I wish my brothers in 17TEN the absolute very best moving forward after this horrible tragedy...
Joe was much more than a musician. Joe loved his family more than anything. Always posting pics of his kids and talking about em. Whenever I saw him usually his nephews wern't too far away at the op or spin or the tattoo shop next door... Joe made you feel like if you ever needed anything whether it being a beer with a pepper in it, or a fat dab session or just a ear to talk to he was there!! "I got you bud" are words I will never forget coming from my fallen Homie.
When Joe passed it blew me away to see the the level of support he received. All different kinds of rappers , bands and musicians reached out to play for Joe!! The Most Envied MC held a rad dinner to raise money and his funeral was so packed that people were crowded into the lobby listening on speakers because there were just too many people that showed up to pay tribute to our boy Joe!!
We are having a all day benefit for Joe on March 19th at The Other Place 2003 Yosemite Blvd in Modesto. It costs $10 to get in and you must be 21+ to attend... We will have 15+ Bands & Artists there to perform and all proceeds go to the Joe Young Fund with a raffle, silent auction & more!!
After 20 years in the music business I can tell you that just about all my friends are tied into music someway and dealing with these people everyday they become more than just band members playing a show they become family!! To lose one suddenly is more Devastating then I ever realized it would be...
